Understanding EU influence and its impact on CEE policies and policymaking processes pre- and post-enlargement is a crosscutting theme in several current and past projects of the center. Research has primarily concerned the impact of financial incentives and social learning driven EU mechanisms, among them as EU structural funds spending, or different employment and social inclusion related policy mechanisms. Some research at the center focuses on Europeanization in policy realms that are outside the core competencies of the EU and on determining differences in Europeanization patterns between those and core EU fields. Other projects have looked at EU impact beyond EU member-states. Approaches used for analysis range from in-depth country studies, to larger comparative studies using qualitative analysis methods such as frame analysis of policy debates, or more quantitative political economy analysis.
