CPS is involved in various initiatives aimed at enhancing local capacity for public policy teaching and research. As an academic unit of the CEU with strong links to the Open Society Foundations programs, the Center is well placed to contribute to the development of an independent policy profession. Staff members have provided strategic advice and assistance for setting up several policy fellowship programs and have a number of ongoing projects to develop resources for teaching public policy in the former socialist countries.
CPS staff has worked with OSI foundations from Slovakia, Mongolia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and with the OSI Network Women’s Program providing strategic advice and assistance for setting up policy fellowship programs, and have also been involved in developing a public policy center in Afghanistan. This work has drawn on the experience gained from working with the International Policy Fellowship. One of the aims of CPS as a research and teaching center is to help develop primary resources that can be used for teaching public policy in the former socialist countries.
